Suzuki and Fiat joined together to create the latest addition to the lineup called the Suzuki SX4. The SX4 is a compact, 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback that has optional 4WD. When the SX4 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006, it was met with mild applause; partially due to the influx of compact cars in recent years. However, since its inception, the SX4 has been hailed as Suzuki's best and an excellent alternative to a more expensive hybrid vehicle.

The SX4 features classic European styling with a sloped front end and curved lines. In the beginning, only the 5-door hatchback version was available in America but, in 2008, Suzuki released the 4-door sedan called the SX4 Sport. The SX4 hatchback has been marketed as a crossover vehicle; however, it is built smaller than most American crossover vehicles on the market today. Five different engines are available in the SX4: 1.5L DOHC I4, 1.6L DOHC I4, 2.0L DOHC I4, 1.6L turbodiesel I4 and the 1.9L turbodiesel I4. A five or six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions are available as well. The SX4 gets an EPA estimated 22 city MPG and 30 highway MPG, while the SX4 Sport gets around 23 city MPG and 31 highway MPG.

Suzuki has used the SX4 in several racing events. The FIA World Rally Championship featured an SX4 and the World Rally Car category was graced with the SX4 as well. The crossover finished in eighth place in the 2008 Rallye Monte Carlo and was driven by P.G. Andersson. Several rumors have been passed around recently regarding the SX4. Bloggers are writing that the SX4 will get a standard in-dash navigation system for the next model year. Several critics are also comparing the SX4 design to that of the Toyota Prius, a popular hybrid vehicle among celebrities. While most auto writers are keeping with Suzuki's claim that the SX4 is a crossover, some are quick to point out that the SX4 is more like a wagon than a crossover vehicle.

Still, there is talk in the rumor mill that Suzuki may do away with the SX4 within the next few years. They say that, with so many crossovers on the American market, the SX4 simply is not doing enough to stand out in the crowd. Critics claim that Suzuki will need to really do something different with the SX4 for it to be considered a standard in the crossover lineup in America.
