Pontiac Solstice

The Pontiac Solstice is a compact sports car that was first introduced to the American auto market in the 2005 model year. Consumers had gotten a sneak peek at the concept version at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. With a lowslung, sleek exterior, the Solstice has quickly become one of Pontiac's bestsellers, and production has had to be increased with each model year. With elegant good looks and powerful engine selections, the Pontiac Solstice has received accolades from media outlets throughout North America.

Available as either a two-door coupe or two-door convertible, the Solstice is equipped with a choice of two I4s or a 260 horsepower turbocharged model in the GXP trim. With a base price in the low twenties, the Pontiac Solstice has become a hit with buyers in all price ranges. Because of the Solstice's range of options and standard features, the model has frequently been compared to a number of luxury sports cars with much higher prices.

A Targa Coupe edition of the Solstice is set to be released for the 2009 model year. It will get a boost in horsepower and will feature a removable roof. Unfortunately, the size of the trunk does not allow for interior storage, but Pontiac will supply a cloth top to buyers who prefer to take the top along with them for the ride.

The Solstice has been involved in several different racing circuits since its inception. Also, Donald Trump came knocking and the Solstice was used as both a prize and marketing challenge in the third season of The Apprentice. Winner Kendra Todd (now a host on HGTV) received a Solstice as part of her prize as well. However, it was not just "The Donald" that was interested in the Pontiac Solstice. Several television shows and feature films have included the sports car in scenes. The television program Las Vegas used the Solstice in an episode, while CSI: Miami paid special attention to it on a show, featuring a red version with a black soft top (red paint color is named "aggressive" by the maker). The New Price is Right also featured the Solstice, offering it as a prize for the winner of a classic game. The hit movie Transformers used the GXP trim of the model, prominently showcasing it in a car chase scene. The fame doesn't end there though. The Solstice is set to make appearances on several other films and T.V. shows in the near future; however, Pontiac has yet to confirm the specifics.
