Dodge Ram 2500

The first Dodge truck to sport the Ram name was released in 1981. However, the trims of the full-size pickup were referred to as 150, 250, and 350. It was not until 1994 that the Ram received the badging change to 1500, 2500, and 3500. The 250 and 2500 trim refers to the three-quarter ton model and has long been a consumer favorite. Initially, the Dodge Ram 2500 was available in a regular cab, club cab, or crew cab style.

The original boxy design was considered contemporary at the time. The first Dodge Ram 250 replaced the D-Series trucks for the maker. Equipped with a range of engine models, the Ram quickly became a consumer favorite because of the level of customization available. The model went through minor changes for the next thirteen model years, but did not see major alterations until 1994.

The 1994 model year brought about a name change, exterior redesign, and upgraded engine choices. Dodge implemented the new 2500 badging and also gave the model two weight ratings - light duty and heavy duty. With engines ranging from a 3.9L Magnum V6 to a 5.9L Diesel I6, the Ram 2500 was one of the most powerful trucks on the road. The exterior got a new streamlined profile with chiseled details. The revamp paid off, and the Ram 2500's sales almost tripled for the 1994 model year.

In 2002, Dodge gave the model another makeover with a more muscular build, HEMI engine availability, and an aggressive front fascia. Though the Ram 2500 hit its highest sales yet, it still was not quite as popular as Ford's F-250. Dodge decided to apply another overhaul to attempt to combat the competition in 2006

The Mega Cab version was introduced, providing seating for up to six passengers with rear reclining seats. A 345 horsepower HEMI was unveiled, and chrome exterior details were added. However, even with the additions, the Dodge Ram 2500's sales were falling fast. Critics claimed that poor fuel economy and the extensive list of options from other makers caused this decline.

The 2008 model year marked the maker's decision to lessen production of the model. Critics are adamant that the implementation of hybrid technology would put the Dodge Ram 2500 back at the top of the heap, but the maker has yet to announce any plans to develop hybrid technology for the model. Also, with questions regarding the future of Dodge because of financial difficulties, some wonder if the model will continue at all in the next few model years.

Though the Dodge Ram 2500 is currently experiencing some difficulties, it has been highlighted in a number of television shows and feature films. The Devil's Advocate, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and Black Sheep are just a few of the movies to give a role to the Ram 2500. Primetime television shows like Friday Night Lights, The Simpsons, and Veronica Mars have all utilized the model as well.
