Chrysler Pacifica

The Chrysler Pacifica, a mid-size crossover SUV was available from 2004-2008. This vehicle shared a platform with minivans manufactured by Chrysler and was the first product to come out of Chrysler and Daimler-Benz's joint venture, which was termed a "merger of equals." It took 30 months to develop the Pacifica, at a cost of under $1 billion. It was built at Chrysler's assembly plant located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Four trim levels were available for the 2005 model year: Base, Touring, Limited, as well as the Signature Series. The base model was equipped with plastic trim to match the interior, while other models featured faux wood trim.

For the 2007 model year, the Pacifica's exterior was given a slight facelift. The hood, fenders, grille, and headlights were restyled, along with the wheels and front fascia. A new 4.0 L V6 engine and transmission were added to the line, along with a dual exhaust. An optional rearview camera was added to the Pacifica's navigation system, along with a better quality fabric with enhanced stain and odor resistance to the vehicle's interior.

The Pacifica had a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. Buyers could choose between two engines: a 4.0 L V6 (200 hp) or a 3.8 L V6 (253 hp). The 4.0 L version came with a six-speed automatic transmission and the 3.8L version was equipped with a four-speed tranny. All models were equipped with an AM/FM radio and CD player. Customers who chose the Limited package were given a year-long free subscription to Sirius satellite radio and a DVD player with an eight-speaker system. The Pacifica's cargo space was 79.5 cubic feet when the second and third row seats were folded down.

The Pacifica was given an award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as its selection for "best pick frontal" in 2006. Total sales for that year were just over 85,000 units.

In 2007, the Pacifica was given a five star safety crash rating for both front and side impacts. The vehicle was outfitted with side curtain air bags (all row), a tire pressure monitoring system, an Electronic Stability Program, and traction control. Pacifica drivers were able to get 16 mpg while driving in the city and 23 mpg for highway driving.

Sales dropped off to just below 73,000 units in 2007. On November 1 of that year, the Company announced that the Pacifica would no longer be in production. True to its word, the last one was completed that same month. With a MRSP starting at $25,365 the final model year for the Chrysler Pacifica was the 2008 version.
