Infiniti M35

Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan, first released its M class series beginning in 2003. The luxury branch of Nissan had decided to do away with their I series vehicles and opted to go with another acronym-based class of vehicles, the Infiniti M35. However, this was not the first time that the public had seen an M class from Infiniti. From 1990 - 1992, Infiniti produced the M30, but it was met with little interest from the buying public. It took Infiniti over ten years to bring back the M series, but this time buyers were more enthusiastic. Since then, the maker has spawned several M series vehicles, including the Infiniti M35.

In 2003, Infiniti unveiled its latest addition, the M45. The 340 horsepower sedan was fitted with a VK45DE V8 and appeals to many buyers that are fans of BMW design and elegance, but are unimpressed with BMWs recent additions. It was not until 2006 that the Infiniti M35 was added to the lineup. The mid-size sport luxury sedan has a 280 horsepower 3.5 L V6 VQ series engine. The M35 is faster than any of the competition on the market; thus, buyers have been more receptive this time around to the M series of cars. Also, buyers and critics alike have raved about the interior room in the M35, saying that not only is it large on the inside, it appears more compact on the outside. The M35 is available in an all-wheel drive version called the M35x.

With the 2008 model year came a few changes to the Infiniti M35. The original engine was swapped for a more fuel efficient 275 horsepower V6, and the exterior got a curvaceous facelift. However, the price point has not faltered and is listed at around $43,900, the Hyundai Azera being a sharp competitor for considerably less money. Sales have dropped in the past year though. Whether the decrease has been caused by the high price or poor gas mileage (16 city MPG/23 highway MPG), no one knows for sure. There has been talk that Infiniti will discontinue the model because of meager sales, but the executives have yet to confirm the rumor. Other sources say that Infiniti plans to keep the M series of vehicles around through at least 2011, when apparently the M37 and M50 are set to be released. However, Infiniti does seem to be taking a turn in another direction with their latest concept SUV, the Kuraza. If the maker plans to go with the contemporary Mini-inspired concept vehicle, it is easy to see why some believe there simply won't be room for the M series in Infiniti's lineup.
