Subaru Legacy

In 1990, Subaru introduced the Legacy, a midsize 4 door sedan that was also available as a 5 door wagon. Both versions were available in L and LS trim levels, with either front-wheel drive or full time all wheel drive. Each model was powered by a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine that produced 130 horsepower and mated with either a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission. Power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes were standard on all models.

Throughout the years, the Legacy graduated to an admirable status, in large part due to its all wheel drive capacity combined with a luxury car type ride and features as opposed to the stiff ride associated with SUVs that provided similar cargo and passenger space . For the 1995 through 1999 model years, some of the significant upgrades to the Legacy included advanced safety and security features and additional trims that included the LSi, Brighton, and Outback versions, which all came equipped with Subaru's impressive all wheel drive. The Outback version in particular was intended to fill the gap between large SUVs, which were growing in popularity and wagon style vehicles with ample cargo space and a smooth ride.

By the 2006 model year, the Legacy had grown in height, width and length. The midsize car had earned its reputation for combining nimble handling with style and luxury. Still available as a sedan or wagon, the 2007 Legacy is available in a variety of trim levels including the 2.51, the 2.51 Special Edition, 2.51 Limited, 2.5 GT Limited and the 2.5 GT spec B. All 2.5i models are equipped with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder that delivers 175 horsepower; GT Limited and GT spec.B models have a 2.5 liter turbocharged engine that produces an impressive 243 horsepower. As is the case for all Subarus sold in the United States, all Legacys have all wheel drive. The spec.B version has an exclusive 6 speed manual transmission, while other models are available with a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic.

With the Subaru Legacy you can get a lot of car for a relatively modest price that offers a stylish interior, high quality materials and engineering, all wheel drive, an exciting ride and outstanding safety ratings. What's not to like? It has truly made its automotive mark and become a legacy of its own.
